Some Knowledge about What I am Doing

There is an article on the Wall Street Journal. I found it really interesting and helpful in understanding what is going on on financial market. Also grabbing attention are the volume numbers. High-frequency trading now accounts for more than half of all stock-trading volume in the U.S. It also generates more revenue for exchanges. NYSE Euronext, owner of the New York Stock Exchange, is building a data center to cater to high-speed traders."

Baltimore

I will visit my cousin in John Hopkins, Baltimore this long weekend. She is a phD majored in Bio-medicine. And she is going to get married in December! John Hopkins University has a great reputation, thus I am really looking forward to visit there.

This week I keep working on the website. Adding some boxes and animation to the text. I learned some fundamental knowledge on javascript, jQuery, and css. Reading documents and watching the tutorial video are very helpful. I tried to write some codes and integrate several websites together. Writing codes is tough especially you have to pay attention very tiny mistakes.

In next blogs that will be posted, I will introduce some knowledge about futures trading and government regulations after the financial crisis on trading business.

I received an email from Melissa yesterday telling me that I am accepted as an unpaid Intern in Public Transit Department, City of Phoenix! So happy...This would surly be a great experience. The work will start in August. After two rounds of interview, I finally get the position. Hope I can bring something useful to the organization!

Marketing on Websites!

Since the firm just opened up 2 years ago, there was no official website. However, a well-established website is very important for a new firm. This huge task becomes mine since it is closely related to marketing.I have to take care of all the elements, from design to coding, from structure to information collection. But this will be great fun! Hopefully, a fabulous website could be completed when I finish internship.

Tight Schedule for This Week

 Last week, I did some statistical analysis on estimated settlement price and the daily settlement price published by the CME. The result shows that the program has been improved to a very high level. In the latest two days, the error is less than 1 tick. And the program is able to predict the settlement price about 30 seconds ahead of the time when CME finally publishes the daily settlement price.

This week, I get started on two tasks, company's website design and market research on listed products of world's largest exchanges. A PPT document was submitted to Tao and Ying on the research result. Tokyo Commodity Exchange and ICE Europe Futures are the two exchanges that I focused on. Then, the home page of website was constructed. The structure of the website was determined and established. I am using Dreamweaver CS5.5 to edit the website. This is the first time that I try to establish a whole website for a company all by myself. Hope everything goes well, and hope finally everyone can be satisfied with their new "online" home..........

A tired weekend and starting a new week!

It was freezing last Saturday......I went to Time Square, 5th Ave with my old friend. It was raining and windy, and there was thick fog in the air. I couldn't even see the top of Empire State Building. We went to a Korean Street to enjoy the dinner. The restaurant was small but warm and comfortable. Time square is really amazing! Filled with energy and power while the wall street looks quiet and mysterious during the weekends.

When I got up this morning, the sun comes back. Today, I gathered the product information from several world's largest exchanges, Singapore Mercantile, Intercontinental Exchange, Anglo-Dutch Energy Exchange in Netherlands, UK, Belgium, Tokyo Commodity Exchange. The focus is on the futures contract information and the daily open interests. The goal of doing this market research is to find out potential proper futures market that is mature enough to do day trading.  

A busy week in New York Mercantile Exchange

This is really a busy week...Exhausted after 5 days...Everything needs to be take care of including myself. But I am also excited. My office is located right next to the World Trade Center, and by the side of Hudson River. Nice ha? Now a new grand building is under construction at site. This week, I spent most time on getting familiar with the work they are doing and help them with data mining and statistical analysis of recent data. The major task is futures trading and hedging. As a trading company closely cooperated with the clearing house, the company has its own programming team. Since the things I learned about the finance market date back to my undergraduate study, so it took some time to remember those things and pick up the memories. This week, I helped the programming team to summarize the test results. By comparing the estimated value of the settlement price of futures and the final settlement price posted by the CME(Chicago Mercantile Exchange)in last 15 days, I can clearly see the improvements the programming team has made according to the difference between the estimated value and the real value. The error has been reduced to almost 0 in the last two days.

Next week, I will start my real project on market research. I need to check out other large exchanges around the world, from Europe to Singapore, and to see what the listed products are, and how large the open interests are.

Well, hope I can have a nice weekend with my old friends! Finally get two days' rest to take a look at the beautiful city-New York!

Just arrived at NYC!

Wow, after 5 hours' flight, I finally arrived at NYC! Looking at Manhattan from the air is really an amazing experience. Tomorrow, I will go to the company to start my internship! Every time I watched Manhattan in movies and TV series, I become excited and completely attracted by this energetic and powerful city. I need to think seriously about what I can do for the company and also what I can get from the job. Looking forward to tomorrow's first meet!
